History

Building originally housed the Mueller Company, a plumbing supplier; other occupants have been Atlanta Service Warehouse (suppliers of water heaters and stoves); and a dairy equipment supplier.

Before 1930, the property was part of a 19th century residential development along Nelson and Walker Streets, of houses built sometime after 1847. Beginning in the 1910s, the east side of Nelson and Walker Streets was re-developed with warehouse and manufacturing buildings. The first of these was the John Deere Plow Company (built in 1914) on Nelson. Around 1914, the railroad tracks that loop behind your building were laid to serve the shipping needs of warehouse and light manufacturing companies. Over the next 15 years or so, other loft-style warehouses filled in spaces, along the east sides of Nelson and Walker, where houses once stood.

The Mueller Building, Johnson and Johnson building, and the building known as Bee-Line Lofts were all constructed around 1930, and are among the last warehouses built in that section of Castleberry Hill. These buildings are similar in their use of dark brick with cast stone sills and copings and decorative panels with terra cotta insets.
