The Hastings Seed building was bought in 1993, formerly the Hastings Seed Com they were the seed men to the South. Though the building was constructed in 1913 for Coolidge and Co. Paint as a paint warehouse, for the bulk of its life it was the Hastings Seed Building. “They had a seed catalog and I still get mail once a month from some little old lady down in south Alabama who wants to get some collard greens seeds or something,” he recounted. “They had chickens and all sorts of stuff here—lots of seeds. They had a warehouse, offices and they had a retail store in the front. They were here until the late 1970s.”
