Riverdale Website

The City of Riverdale is located about five miles south of Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport, one the nation's busiest airports. The City, located on Atlanta's southside, also known as the "Southern Crescent," is about 10 miles south of Atlanta, in Clayton County. Riverdale has a population of 10,000, making it the second largest of six cities in the county.
In 1970, the population was about 2,500 and by 1975 had grown to 7,000. For a city with a population of 159 in 1920, this was dramatic growth. With an estimated year 2000 population between 12,000 and 13,000, Riverdale continues to grow. The current city hall complex houses the administration, police, and fire department offices. The fire and police departments in the complex were built in the late 1970's. The police department was enlarged and city hall was added on in 1990, to make one contiguous 24,000 square foot building. The Public Works building was built in 2000 and is located at 971 Wilson Road.. The City also built a second fire station in 1991, that is over 4,000 square feet. The City of Riverdale has indeed come a long way since its humble beginnings in the late 1800's.
