INMAN PARK REAL ESTATE
Inman Park Website
Inman Park is one of Atlanta's most interesting and provocative neighborhoods. It is a turn of the century "Victorian" neighborhood and was promoted as Atlanta's first garden suburb during its' development period just prior to the turn of the century. It is listed on the Nation Register of Historic places. Developed by Joel Hurt, a cousin of Asa Candler the original owner of Coca Cola, it flourished for a relatively short period. Asa Candler's home is across the street just south of the Joel Hurt home in Inman Park. The revitalization of Inman Park began about 1970 with large Victorian Homes selling in the teens. Now, those same homes, renovated, are likely to run $600,000 - $1,000,000.The neighborhood is well organized and politically powerful. That fact is bolstered by the knowledge that the neighborhood was instrumental in stopping no less than three attempts to build expressways through the neighborhood by the Georgia Highway Department which is formally referred to as the Georgia Transportation Department (a broad misrepresentation) :. The Inman Park Neighborhood Association meets monthly and there are various committees to oversee the dynamics of the neighborhood. If you are looking for a hands-on neighborhood this is it. There are plenty of opportunities to be involved in various neighborhood based committees and programs. To some degree Inman Park takes pride in its' quirkiness. The adage that "you don't have to be crazy to live here but it helps" still holds, as it applies. Although, it applies less and less as prices skyrocket and the original cast of characters and cadre of "crazies" who pioneered the gentrification in the early 70's thins out. If you are one of those people who feel you don't quite fit in anywhere this may well be your neighborhood.
Each year Inman Park hosts the Inman Park Festival and Tour of Homes. There are at least 100 neighbors involved in executing this festival. Several streets are closed. It begins Friday night with Butterfly Ball, a dinner dance, black tie or festive dress, event for neighbor and their friends by invitation only. It is held outside, under the main tent with an attendance of approximately 400. Then on Saturday morning 500+ Arts and Crafts and Flea Market vendors show up to set up in assigned spaces on various streets in the neighborhood. There are two major entertainment tents with ongoing entertainment from 12 noon until 6pm. The tour of Homes begins on Friday afternoon and continues Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Saturday evening is Theater Al Fresco under the main tent. Tables of six are sold and several of the live Theater Groups in the neighborhood come and present some of their work on stage. It is a "bring your own" dinner. The proceeds, which have increased dramatically over the years, go to the Theater Groups. The last day of festival then is Sunday. At 6 pm it is over. The "Cleaning Crew" (neighbors) shows up for clean up. By 9 pm the neighborhood is spotless. Then there is the clean up party with pizza, beer and wine. The proceeds from festival are used to fund various neighborhood projects and programs.
Just east of Inman Park is Little Five Points a small business district unique in Atlanta. The shops in Little Five Points are fanciful and unique and include bookstores, coffee shops, excellent restaurants of all description and vintage and contemporary clothing stores.
On its northeastern border is the Presidential Parkway and Freedom Park surrounded the Jimmy Carter Library. Walkers, runners, cyclist and skaters frequent the pathways through the park constantly. The pathways provide a safe and visually attractive environment for exercise. The park borders, Inman Park, Poncey Highlands, Old Fourth Ward and Candler Park. It connects to Ponce De Leon on the north, the Inman Park MARTA station on the south, and Boulevard Ave on the West. The Jimmy Carter Library is surrounded by the Park.
This is a great neighborhood for families of all types and description. There are deep roots for children raised here. It takes a village to raise a child certainly applies here if you want to take advantage of it. Inman Parkers refer to their neighborhood as Atlanta's Small Town Downtown!
This is just one of Atlanta's fabulous close-in downtown neighborhoods.
